Roland Public Schools are in the process of developing a 21st CCLC grant proposal to create additional out-of-school-time programs for Roland Elementary and Roland Middle School. The program will be before-, after-, and summer school depending on the input that you provide on what you want to see in your community's school program and the OSDE requirements. As a condition for submitting a proposal, Roland Public Schools are requesting community input in the development of this proposal. Here is a link ( https://forms.gle/5U7BfZTbUACVyNjQ6 ) to a community survey to help us better understand the needs that can be met with this potential grant opportunity through additions to our extended-care programs.

Recently Mrs. Sutterfield's science lab classes have been hard at work creating their very own Rube Goldberg machines. A Rube Goldberg machine is a chain reaction-type machine or contraption intentionally designed to perform a simple task in an indirect and overly complicated way. Usually, these machines consist of a series of simple unrelated devices; the action of each previous action triggers the initiation of the next, eventually resulting in achieving a stated goal. We have enjoyed seeing our students use their imagination and innovation throughout this project and school year.

Cherokee National Educational Services visited Roland Elementary students in grades 1-5. Students had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the Cherokee language as well as learning about Cherokee games. Our students played stickball (closely related to lacrosse), marbles (played with balls rolling toward pins), games of graces (throwing and catching wooden ring with wooden sticks), and chunky (throwing of spears). While it was very interactive, it was great fun to see our kids learn more about the Cherokee culture. RPS sends a giant Thank You to Cherokee Nation and the representatives who taught our students!
