Congratulations to the following Roland Middle School students for being the top achievers in Academic Advisory for the week of September 25 - September 29.
Mrs. Sutterfield's seventh and eighth grade science classes recently learned about the properties of water and how surface tension works. During this project based learning lab the students counted how many water droplets and soapy water droplets would fit on each penny before the water tension broke. Seventh grade student, Jaida Washington, ended up having the most drops of water at 237.
The 2023-24 National Honor Society induction ceremony will be held this Thursday evening at 6:30pm in the Roland High School Commons. We invite friends and family to come be a part of this special time as we recognize our newest members!
Every Friday our middle school students work on life skills during their advisory period. These skills will improve academic focus, academic growth, and emotional intelligence, which will lead to college and career readiness. This past week each grade learned about a different set of skills. The eighth graders learned about harnessing their strengths and overcoming roadblocks. The seventh graders learned how to identify internal and external roadblocks, and the sixth graders learned how to make specific goals that were clearly defined.
During the month of September, our elementary school counselor has been going into the classrooms to teach important life skills. These skills encourage academic growth and increase emotional intelligence.

Congratulations to the following Roland Middle School students for being the top achievers in Academic Advisory for the week of September 18 - September 22.
Last week Mrs. Sutterfield’s science classes were learning how to graph and read different types of graphs. They constructed an activity counting different amounts of colored construction paper and graphed the results. This activity assisted the students in understanding how to design a bar graph. The students also practiced reading line and circle graphs.

Recently Mrs. Sutterfield’s 7th and 8th grade Science students were learning about the different types of variables in an experiment. Mrs. Sutterfield's project based learning activity was a paper towel absorption lab. The students had to identify the variables and test their hypothesis of which brand of paper towels would soak up the most liquid.
